Sijo J. Parekattil, M.D

Co-Director of Robotic Surgery,
Director of Male Infertility and Microsurgery

University of Florida, Gainesville, FL.

This website was created to provide Dr.Parekattil's patients with information on new procedures available: robotic prostatectomy (prostate surgery) for prostate cancer, robotic partial nephrectomy and robotic renal cryotherapy for renal cancer, robotic pyeloplasty for uretero-pelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction and robotic vasectomy reversal for men who would like to have children after a previous vasectomy.

Our underlying principle is to provide care with a degree of unparalleled dedication and excellence. We are one of only a few centers in the world that utilize Intuitive Surgical's DaVinci Type S Robot with High Definition capability to allow 5 times the magnification and enhanced instrument maneuverability over standard robotic prostatectomy (prostate surgery), partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and vasectomy reversal procedures.

Dr.Parekattil's previous background in Engineering and his dual fellowships in Microsurgery/Vasectomy reversals and Laparoscopy/Robotics from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland have lead to a keen interest in pursuing research and the transfer of cutting edge technology to surgical techniques for the enhancement of patient outcomes when treating prostate cancer (prostate surgery), renal cancer, UPJ obstruction and male infertility.

We are currently utilize a novel tool called the ERBE Hemostatic Hydrodissector to perform a unique Nerve Preservation technique during Robotic Radical Prostatectomy (for prostate cancer surgery). We also utilize this technique routinely to remove kidney tumors (renal cancer) without taking out the whole kidney (Robotic Partial Nephrectomy with Hydrodissection).

Dr.Parekattil safely performed the first Robotic Renal Cryotherapy in March 2007 for renal cancer which is a novel minimally invasive technique for the treatment of kidney tumors in patients that may not have classically been surgical candidates.

The robot allows increased degrees of freedom in motion, similar to moving your wrist. This allows for enhanced dexterity, maneuverability and precision.

The following cutting edge procedures for prostate cancer, renal cancer and male infertility are available:
